Defining Upstander
An upstander is a person who has information about a safety concern and makes the choice to take action. This is when a bystander, the person that has information, makes the choice to do something to stop or prevent harm from happening. It is important for people to have multiple ways to report information.
Ways to be an Upstander
Go to a Trusted Adult
Students and caregivers have a trusted adult in the school environment that they feel safe going to with information about a concern.
Call to Make a Report
Anyone with information can easily locate or quickly recall a phone number to call to share information about a concern.
Use a Digital Tool
Anyone with information can easily access a webpage, online form, or phone application to make a report.
Help People Become an Upstander
It is important to help people make the choice to become an upstander by sharing information with them in different ways throughout the year.
